About Me: Cynthia

Hey FreeTheRoots Fam!

My name is Cynthia,  I was proudly born and raised on a gorgeous sunny island in the middle of the Caribbean by the name of Puerto Rico. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and I’m currently working on a Master’s degree in Social Work. I’ve been natural for 11 years; determined to see my 4a-4b hair grow freely and naturally I decided to simply stop manipulating it altogether, and started just washing it, moisturizing it and letting it grow, allowing it to form locs. I decided to freeform right before the pandemic (my locaversary is February 17, 2020). This decision led me to explore more natural/organic options that would nourish my scalp and hair without leaving any residue.

Like many of you, my research led me to FreeTheRoots so I decided to try out their natural bar soaps in August that year. This proved to be a total success since my hair was healthier, stronger and growing quicker than ever before, and since then I've never used anything else.

As most of you probably know from personal experience or have heard, the journey of freeform locs is usually accompanied by a sense of awakening: a feeling of wanting to free yourself from societal and self-imposed chains. Also around this time, at a previous job I was an essential worker as the pandemic grew; after some reflection I decided to leave that traditional 9-to-5 to start a new journey with Free the Roots, where I help manage our marketing and sales support.

Not only did I personally use (and loved) the products, but the ethics and purpose behind the brand also spoke to me. Within the company it's my goal to grow our community and support as many people's own individual journeys as possible. I love our community and I'm proud and excited to be a part of this growing and expanding brand and especially to join all of you on your individual natural journeys!
